What Is SkypeIn?
SkypeIn service is what you want to use when you want to receive calls from a
PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) phone or a POTS (Plain Old Telephone
Service) phone. POTS and PSTN are synonyms for traditional phone service.This
service will also allow you to be reached locally or internationally and you
phone number goes with you.
Once you equip you laptop or desktop computer with speakers, headset and
microphone you are ready to go.
In order to use the SkypeIn service, you will need to purchase one or more
phone numbers. Each phone number will be tied to your Skype
user account. Once you have your numbers, anyone from a traditional or
conventional phone can call you. The person calling will hear the normal dial
tone and ring sequences and if they were calling another traditional phone. The
person calling you will not know where you are located.
SkypeIn is not available everywhere in the world. You can purchase SkypeIn in
United States, United Kingdom, Brazil, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France,
Germany, Hong Kong, Poland, Sweden and Switzerland. Please check with Skype to
determine if new destinations have been added. They are actively working on
more destinations.
When using Skype, you can purchase a maximum of 10 phone numbers per place. An
example would be let's say you purchased a number in Kansas City and then you
traveled to Singapore for business and wanted you relatives to be able to get
in touch with you through Skype. You r relative could call from Kansas City
using the Skype number you gave him/her. That number is not limited to your
relative in Kansas City. People in other places can use the same numnber to
call you also.
